Our Programs

Thriving Minds is a citywide initiative that brings together organizations that believe in the power of imagination, creativity and innovation to change the way children learn. Through programs that promote creative thinking, project-based learning and experimentation, Thriving Minds is changing the way our city thinks about educating youth for the 21st century.  Learn more here.

SLANT:  Service Learning Adventures in North Texas is a service-learning program designed to inspire youth to take up the challengeofimproving their neighborhoods and communities in unique and creative ways.  The program was created by Big Thought in 2009 as the official education initiative of The North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee.  Because of the overwhelming success of SLANT 45, which involved 44,140 youth completing more than 445,000 hours of service in their communities, Big Thought committed to continuing the program in North Texas.  Visit myslant.org to learn more and register your team.

Library Live! is our monthly family literacy program which takes place in every Dallas Public Library branch. Big Thought artists present interactive, education and culture-based literacy activities for children and their families through music, dance, storytelling, theater and visual art. See our calendar of events for program locations and times.

Creative Solutions, presented by Big Thought in partnership with the Dallas County Juvenile Department, gives at-risk teens a positive outlet for self-expression, teaches job skills and college readiness and helps them channel their energy and creativity into worthy pursuits. Taught by professional artist-mentors, students in the program receive visual or performing arts training and often discover raw talent, instilling confidence and inspiring them to stay in school, go on to college and seek new career paths. Since 2007, Big Thought has partnered with Southern Methodist University's Meadows School of the Arts, which graciously hosts the summer program, the final performances and the gallery art exhibit.

Young Audiences
We have been a part of the nationwide Young Audiences (YA) network for over 20 years. First as Young Audiences of North Texas and now as Big Thought, we have built up a corps of local teaching artists who offer a wide range of programming in schools, libraries and other venues.
