Description

"Work of Art" is a Writers-in-the-Schools program that links Language Arts with other disciplines so that students get a "double exposure" that is more than just the sum of its parts. Students combine language with another art form or discipline and learn how to use one to explore the other.

Students Will

  • Discover that literature is a relevant art form that can help them make sense out of their own lives.
  • Study the creation and collaboration of art forms.
  • Explore flexibility of language skills.
  • Learn how to craft communication into a highly interactive and social art form.
  • Practice original voice, inventive word choice, clear organization and description.
  • Gain an interdisciplinary perspective through various modes of inquiry such as listening and/or making music, viewing and/or creating art, observing and/ or acting out skits, viewing photos, and using their imagination

Deadline: Prefer no later than two weeks prior to start date.
Cancellation Policy: A minimum of 48 hours notice is required to cancel a scheduled date. If 48-hour notice is given, we will reschedule the date, based upon the availability of the Instructor. If 48-hour notice is not given, we will bill for the date scheduled and not reschedule the date.
After School Policy: At least one school representative/teacher must be present in the classroom at all times. 25 students maximum per class; the preferred student teacher ratio is 25:2. Minor adjustments can be negotiated.
