Standards

Description

Students uncover the meaning of culture by learning to identify cultural universals such as kinship, economics, and belief systems. In addition to analyzing primary sources, students will explore the connection between culture and their daily lives with a hands-on investigation of different cultures represented in Dallas County.

Students Will

  • discuss the concepts of kinship, artistic expression, economics, and belief systems.
  • explore connections between culture and economics through primary sources and artifacts.
  • create their own money system and design
  • create their own holiday and greeting card
  • learn the importance of laws and create laws to ensure safety for their community

Details

Dates: August 2016 to July 2017
Times: Monday - Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Duration: Each program lasts about 50 minutes and is designed for 30 students. More than one program can be done during a school visit. Allow an additional 1.5 hours for the museum galleries.
School Fee: $6.00 per student; only required chaperones (1 per 10 students) receive complimentary admission.
Minimum Attendance: 20
Maximum Attendance: 100
Bilingual: No
Technical Needs: 1 adult is REQUIRED for every 10 students.
Other Information: Please arrive at the Museum on time. Account for traffic in downtown Dallas by leaving school earlier than initially planned. If you will be late, please call the Museum's front desk at 214-745-1100. The Museum requires one adult for every 20 students. All adults and chaperones are expected to actively participate in the museum program by keeping students on task and engaged.

Deadline: Must be scheduled no later than 5 days before voucher expiration date.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be made a minimum of 2 weeks (10 business days) in advance. If you choose not to come on your scheduled day and have not rescheduled, your school or ISD will be responsible for 100% of the amount due for your trip. If your school or ISD is closed on the day of your trip due to inclement weather or other emergencies, we will make every effort to reschedule. If no make-up day is available, you will be refunded the cost of your program. Please understand that when you schedule a school program, the museum schedules staff and volunteers to make the program possible.
