Description

The butterflies are here! Explore the life cycle and habitat for tropical butterflies, including the star of the show, The Marvelous Monarch! This program explores pollination and the interdependence of insects and plants. Butterfly insect parts and their adaptations are taught in a fun and novel way. Program is 60 minutes and consists of a classroom portion, followed by a guided tour of the Butterfly House. Scholarships available. Contact booking@texasdiscoverygardens.org for more info!

Students Will

  • Learn about the migration of Monarch butterflies.
  • Compare & contrast the differences in Butterflies and Moths.
  • Apply their knowledge of the butterfly's complete metamorphosis to the habitat they will be immersed in.

Dates: Weekdays
Times: Hourly, 10 am - 1 pm.
Duration: 55 minutes
School Fee: $8 per child for program and Tropical Butterfly House. One adult for every 10 students is free! Additional adults are $8
Minimum Attendance: 10
Maximum Attendance: 50

Technical Needs: Bring your refillable water bottle! Butterflies require warm, humid conditions!
Other Information: If time is a concern for your group, we can accommodate 100 students in 1 hr by making the Guided Tour a Self-Guided Tour.

Scheduling / Booking

Instructions: Please call the Booking Department at 214-428-7476 ext. 343 or email booking@texasdiscoverygardens.org to book your visit. Be prepared to provide your contact information, Voucher number, Approval Code, approximate number of students and program selection.
Deadline: Minimum 2 weeks before program date.
Cancellation Policy: With less than two weeks notice, all field trips, outreach and afterschool programs are non-refundable. Changes to number attending and cost of program may be made two weeks prior to program date. Any remaining balance is due two weeks before your scheduled visit date. If you need for any reason to reschedule your program you must contact the Booking Department at least two weeks before your scheduled visit in order for your deposit/payment to be applied to your new visit date. Rescheduling is available in the event of TDG equipment failures, power failures, school closings by ISD or inclement weather. If in doubt due to weather, please call the Education department to confirm weather conditions at the Gardens. Your program is only guaranteed at the scheduled start time noted in your voucher and TDG Invoice. TDG follows the DISD School Closing decisions for inclement weather. We will do our best to accommodate late arrivals, but we reserve the right to cancel or adjust program.
