Standards

Description

Students will explore gardens and recognize that people plant gardens for a variety of reasons. They will learn the basic needs of plants and the parts of that plant and seed. Lesson ends with each student planting their very own seed in a take-home cup! Additional pre and post extension activities available upon request. Scholarship funding available. Students Will

  • Recognize why people plant different gardens.
  • Explain that a gardener wears the things they do in order to keep themselves safe.
  • Examine a variety of seeds and understand seeds are alive.
  • Compare & contrast the parts of a plant and the vegetables that come from those parts.
  • Follow a sequence of directions to plant their seeds.

Dates: Weekdays
Times: Negotiable to best accommodate your schedule
Duration: 50 minutes
School Fee: $5 per student. One free adult for every 10 students. Additional outreach fee of $75.

Technical Needs: A small presentation space with a table is needed.

Scheduling / Booking

Instructions: Please call the Booking Department at 214-428-7476 ext. 343 or email booking@texasdiscoverygardens.org to book your visit. Be prepared to provide your contact information, Voucher number, Approval Code, approximate number of students and program selection.
Deadline: Minimum 2 weeks before program date.
Cancellation Policy: With less than two weeks notice, all field trips, outreach and afterschool programs are non-refundable. Changes to number attending and cost of program may be made two weeks prior to program date. Any remaining balance is due two weeks before your scheduled visit date. If you need for any reason to reschedule your program you must contact the Booking Department at least two weeks before your scheduled visit in order for your deposit/payment to be applied to your new visit date. Rescheduling is available in the event of TDG equipment failures, power failures, school closings by ISD or inclement weather. If in doubt due to weather, please call the Education department to confirm weather conditions at the Gardens. Your program is only guaranteed at the scheduled start time noted in your voucher and TDG Invoice. TDG follows the DISD School Closing decisions for inclement weather. We will do our best to accommodate late arrivals, but we reserve the right to cancel or adjust program.
