2011 Thriving Minds Summer Camp Integrated Curriculum

The Thriving Minds Summer Camp Curriculum was created to enhance the summer learning experience of Dallas ISD students by providing teachers with new tools with which to meet student needs. Curriculum for both middle and elementary school is project-based, offering students hands-on and creative learning opportunities where they focus on complex problems and apply concepts learned in school to find real-life solutions.

For elementary school, integrated instruction mixes the creative experiences offered by music, theatre and other art forms with core subjects like math and science. This approach helps to better address diverse student learning styles and emphasizes creative choice, a strategy to better engage Thriving Minds elementary school students. The middle school curriculum relates classroom subjects to careers, focusing on work and life skills as well as demonstrating to students the relevance of school to their future lives.

The Thriving Minds Summer Camp Curriculum was created in a partnership between Big Thought, Dallas ISD and nationally-recognized curriculum writers, with funding from the Texas Education Agency and JPMorgan Chase.
