BIG Volunteers

Are you a relentless optimist? Corporate groups and individual volunteers who have a passion for youth, want to foster a love of reading or desire to light a creative spark in children are invited to engage with us as a monthly, quarterly or annual volunteer. On-going Opportunities

After-School reading through Big Thought’s Read Out initiative

In the Thriving Minds After-School (TMAS) program elementary and middle school students find a safe, creative environment to explore enriching activities that support their academic and personal growth. Volunteers will read to youth and support literacy efforts at elementary sites.

Flexible Hours: Friday between 3:00pm – 6:00pm

Supply/Book Drives

The Thriving Minds After-School (TMAS) program facilitates school projects and events during out-of-school hours. Campuses are always in need of art supplies, school supplies, gardening supplies and books.

Quarterly Opportunities

DaVerse Lounge

DaVerse is a spoken-word performance and youth-development program for middle and high-school students, providing a safe haven for self-expression. DaVerse Lounge is held quarterly on Friday evenings from 6p.m.-10 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Help set-up artist booths and support art activities
  • Help collect student work and organize line of readers
  • Assist in greeting buses and students

Annual Opportunities

Works of HeART

This unique art exhibit and silent auction showcases artwork exclusively made by the creative minds behind the internationally recognized Fossil brand. Proceeds from the event benefit Big Thought.

Volunteers are needed to support:

  • Event Set-Up
  • Check-In Table
  • Check-Out Table
  • Event Closing

Big Day

Big Thought celebrated its annual Big Day at the Trinity River Audubon Center on Saturday, May 7, 2016. More than 2,000 students enrolled in Big Thought’s after-school programs attended this event as a celebration for their academic and personal development during the school year. During Big Day, families enjoy full access to a local venue they may not normally have access to. Contact us to volunteer for Big Day 2017!

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Help with set-up of registration, water stations and educational activities
  • Support art activities
  • Bus and guest management.
