Whether you can give a few hours, a few weeks or a few months, volunteering with Big Thought is flexible and fun.

Volunteer with Thriving Minds After School

Thriving Minds programs give children the opportunity to excel in an environment that encourages exploration and creative expression. Between 3:00-6:00PM during the school year and throughout the summer, the program provides inspiring and enriching activities that kids can’t get elsewhere. These volunteer opportunities are great for small groups. Volunteer experiences are highly customizable based on your specific interests and will take place at our current campus sites.

Volunteer Schedule

General Program Support Volunteer (3-6 volunteers; exact activities will vary by campus schedule)

    • 2:30-3:00PM Arrive and Set-Up
    • 3:00-5:45PM Program Support
    • 5:45-6:00PM Clean-Up and Depart

Special Programming Volunteer (3-6 volunteers)

    • 3:30-4:00PM Arrive and Set-Up
    • 4:00-5:00PM Activity
    • 5:00-5:15PM Clean-Up and Depart

General Volunteer Expectations

  • Attire
    • T-shirt with no inappropriate logos (corporate/organization t-shirt encouraged)
    • Jeans/long pants
    • Comfortable closed-toe shoes
  • Media Policy- Volunteers cannot take photos of children.

Background Check Policy

    • For one-time volunteering: Complete Dallas Independent School District volunteer application. Must forward email approval receipt to Big Thought one week prior to your shift.
    • For reoccurring volunteering: Big Thought will facilitate a full background check.

 

Volunteer with DaVerse Lounge

Through innovative curriculum, afterschool clubs, and signature open mic performances, the DaVerse Lounge experience is designed to activate joy, invite depth, and offer reflection. Unlike other spoken-word programs, DaVerse Lounge is not a forced competition, but is an opportunity for all youth to express themselves in a low risk-high success setting.

  1. Cash Handler (BT Staff)
  2. Attendance Clicker (BT Staff)
  3. Attendance Clicker – Backup
  4. Greeter at Front Door
  5. Greeter/School Scribe (capturing which schools/clubs are at the event)
  6. iPad Station (student signup and template completion)
  7. Runner with Ysamar (welcoming buses/groups as they arrive)
  8. Cypher Room Management
  9. Restroom Hallway Management
  10. Art Station
  11. Floater 1
  12. Floater 2
