Dallas Bar Association presents Big Thought with the Jack Lowe Sr. Award for Community Leadership

The Dallas Bar Association recently presented Big Thought with the Jack Lowe Sr. Award for Community Leadership during their Education Symposium at the Belo Mansion.

The award, which originated in 2003, is named after Jack Lowe Sr., the founder of Texas Distributors Inc., and the inspirational leader who dedicated his life to empowering others for success. A true visionary, Lowe helped to start and lead the multiracial Dallas Alliance Education Task Force, which eventually led to DISD’s initial desegregation plan in 1976.

Named after this outstanding leader, the award honors leaders in the community who have proven to be advocates for improving children’s rights and the education opportunities for low-income people in Dallas. Big Thought is honored to have been named the 2019 recipient.

Big Thought knows that far too many young people grow up in environments that do not empower them to discover their own greatness. Income, community resources, race and English language proficiency can largely determine opportunities for success. This is called the Opportunity Gap.

However, the Opportunity Gap can be bridged. At Big Thought, we believe that all youth have greatness. Our North Star is that all youth in marginalized communities are equipped to imagine and create their best lives and world.

After 30+ years of innovation and education advocacy, Big Thought is excited to be recognized by the Dallas Bar Association & Caruth Institute for Children’s Rights in receiving the Jack Lowe Sr. Award at the Education Symposium.

The Dallas Bar Association & Caruth Institute for Children’s Rights Education Symposium seeks to improve the lives of children through advocacy. Each year, the symposium brings community leaders together in the interest of improving public education in the Dallas Metroplex.

Past recipients of the Jack Lowe Sr. Award include Reading Partners for North Texas, the Aberg Center for Literacy, the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship of Greater Dallas, Vickery Meadow Learning Center, Jubilee Park, Former DISD Superintendent Linus Wright and many other change-makers in Dallas.

Driven by our mission to make imagination a part of everyday learning and close the opportunity gap for youth in Dallas and beyond, Big Thought is honored to be named among the aforementioned outstanding organizations that have received this award.
