BIG Commitments to Closing the Opportunity Gap

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal along with JCPenney Communities Foundation kicked off #GivingTuesday in support of local nonprofits with more than $240,000 worth of charitable donations. Jill Soltau, JCPenney chief executive officer, said “Throughout the pandemic, we have stayed connected to our community partners and listened to the challenges they are facing. We are inspired by the important work of these organizations to close the opportunity gap, and we hope these gifts make their holiday season brighter.”

Early studies have shown that a vast majority of students and their families, especially in marginalized communities, will be adversely affected by the pandemic backlash. The collaborative efforts of organizations that work to close the opportunity gap those that support them like JCPenney Communities Foundation will continue to be essential to help meet the growing needs of our communities. Big Thought is proud to stand with Communities In Schools, as well as eight DFW-area schools including Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy, Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School as recipients.

A BIG Thank you JCP for recognizing our collective commitments to closing the gap.
